Artificial or Human Intelligence?

While the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and online platforms have transformed the way we acquire knowledge, the resurgence of face-to-face learning experiences signals a fundamental need for human interaction and community in the learning process.

In today's digital era, where we are increasingly dominated by the digital wave of innovation and the bombardment of information through the speed of technological advancement, the power of in-person human connection in facilitated learning cannot be underestimated.

One of the key advantages of the in-person learning environment is its ability to create a sense of community, a collective, a togetherness.

When individuals come together in a physical space to learn, they create a shared experience that is enriching, interactive, challenging, and memorable. This sense of belonging and camaraderie can significantly enhance the learning uptake, as learners are more engaged and motivated to participate actively in discussions and activities.

Reflecting on the challenges of the past few years, it's evident that while technology allowed us to maintain productivity during the lockdowns of 2020-2021-2022, it also highlighted a fundamental human need for connection. Despite the conveniences of virtual meetings, loneliness surged, and our emotional well-being suffered.

We learned that humans thrive on connection and community.

In response, we've seen a shift back to basics. In 2022, hybrid learning environments emerged, and by 2023, there was a growing desire for in-person learning activities. Decision-makers, customers, clients – the community began to crave the energy and engagement that comes with face-to-face interactions. Learning was no exception.

Face-to-face learning provides an unparalleled opportunity for real-time feedback and interaction. Unlike AI-driven learning platforms, which often rely on pre-programmed responses, human facilitators can adapt their teaching approach based on the unique needs and learning styles of their audience. This personalised approach not only enhances the application of new knowledge but also creates a more supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Learning can be tested, actioned, and enjoyed in real time, meaning the uptake of new knowledge is immediate and shared. Moreover, when learners engage in face-to-face interactions, they not only learn from the facilitator but also from their peers. This collaborative learning approach encourages the exchange of ideas and perspectives, leading to a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Furthermore, the human connection forged through in-person learning can have lasting effects on organisational culture and values. When employees participate in face-to-face training programs, they not only develop new skills but also form stronger bonds with their colleagues. This sense of connection and shared experience can help to reinforce core business values and

Increase employee engagement and loyalty.

From a business perspective, investing in in-person learning can have significant long-term benefits. By creating a strong sense of community and connection among employees, organisations can enhance their brand exposure and increase customer buy-in. Employees who feel connected to their organisation are more likely to become brand ambassadors, leading to greater customer satisfaction and loyalty. It really is that simple!

My final thoughts, while AI and online learning platforms have their place in the modern learning landscape, the value of face-to-face learning experiences cannot be overlooked. In-person learning not only enhances the learning uptake and application of new knowledge but also fosters a sense of community and connection that is essential for organisational success. By investing in in-person learning, organisations can reap the benefits of increased employee engagement, brand exposure, and revenue generation.

Together let’s embrace what we have learnt, what we now know. Perhaps it is time to get back to basics and forge ahead in a way that creates empowered learning environments that drive change. Support change, motivate growth and generate bigger, better more enriched teams.
